Strengthening Farmers Through Collective Credit Support
The Joint Liability Group (JLG) Promotion initiative by Baba Laxmi Narayan Sewa Samiti (BLNSS) focuses on improving access to credit for small and tenant farmers who often face challenges in securing loans from formal financial institutions. By organizing farmers into small groups, this initiative promotes collective responsibility and financial inclusion.
Through this program, farmers are empowered to access collateral-free loans, enhance their agricultural productivity, and improve their overall livelihood.
Project Objective

  1. To promote financial inclusion among small and tenant farmers through Joint Liability Groups (JLGs)

  2. To provide access to collateral-free credit for agriculture and livelihood activities

  3. To strengthen mutual accountability and group-based financial discipline

  4. To enhance knowledge on crop planning, loan utilization, and income generation

  5. To improve livelihood opportunities and financial stability of rural farmers

Implementation Strategy

BLNSS facilitates the formation of Joint Liability Groups consisting of 4–10 members engaged in similar farming or livelihood activities. These groups are trained in financial literacy, mutual accountability, crop planning, and proper loan utilization.

Once the groups are well-structured, BLNSS collaborates with banks and financial institutions, including NABARD, to enable access to collateral-free loans. Each member can avail loans typically ranging from ₹50,000 to ₹1,50,000 based on their needs and group performance.
Sustainability and Future Scope
By promoting group-based financial systems, the initiative ensures long-term sustainability and responsible credit usage. Farmers develop better financial habits and continue to access institutional support independently.

The program has strong potential to expand across more rural regions, contributing to inclusive agricultural growth and rural development.
